Getting money in, and getting it back out
Betting money in Ghana moves on mobile money. Every bookmaker whose cashier we could read takes all three wallets, so the interesting question is not who accepts MoMo. It is what happens when you win enough for the wallet itself to become the problem, and that is a Bank of Ghana rule rather than a bookmaker one.
The limit that actually binds
Those two figures are the whole story. The bookmaker's ceiling is an advert; the wallet's ceiling is a rule, and the smaller of the two is what happens to your money. A wallet on minimum KYC also cannot hold more than GH₵5,000 at any moment, so a large win has to be split across days, moved off the wallet between tranches, or sent to an account upgraded at the telco before you ask for it.
What a big payout does at each KYC level
The arithmetic below takes the largest mobile money payout any Ghanaian operator advertises, GH₵30,000 at Wiwi Casino, and asks how many days it would take to land in a wallet at each Bank of Ghana level. Nothing here is a criticism of the operator: the money is sent, the wallet is what cannot take it.
| Wallet level | In per day | Can hold | Days to land | What you have to do |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Minimum KYC | GH₵3,000 | GH₵5,000 | 10 days | Move each tranche off the wallet before the next one is sent, or the balance ceiling stops it. |
| Medium KYC | GH₵15,000 | GH₵40,000 | 2 days | Nothing further. The whole amount sits within the balance ceiling. |
| Enhanced KYC | GH₵25,000 | GH₵75,000 | 2 days | Nothing further. The whole amount sits within the balance ceiling. |
Read the other way round: a payout of GH₵3,000 or less lands in one day on any wallet, and Medium KYC is the first level that can take more than that in a single day. Upgrading is done at the telco with an ID, not at the bookmaker, and it is worth doing before the slip lands rather than after.
All 6 rails, and which books take them
Shares below are out of the 9 bookmakers whose cashier could be read from outside Ghana, never out of all 13. Four operators geo-block the country and publish no cashier at all, so they are absent from the numerator and from the denominator too, and they are named at the bottom of this page rather than counted as refusals.
| Rail | Deposit from | Withdrawal from | Money out | Bookmakers |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| MTN Mobile Money universal | GH₵1.00 | GH₵1.00 | instant below each operator's auto-approval threshold | 9 of 9 100% |
| The default rail. Minimums cluster at GH₵1 to deposit; withdrawal minimums run GH₵1 to GH₵10 by operator and there is no industry figure. No payout median in minutes is recorded here on purpose — see _unverified. Operator side: free at every operator that publishes a position. | ||||
| Telecel Cash universal · was Vodafone Cash | GH₵1.00 | GH₵1.00 | same as MoMo at the same operator | 9 of 9 100% |
| Telecel Cash is the current and only correct name. Telecel Group took 70% of Vodafone Ghana in 2023, announced the full rebrand for end-February 2024 and completed it in March 2024; Vodafone Ghana Mobile Financial Services became Telecel Cash in the same exercise. The naming is still split across the market: betPawa says Telecel on its own cashier, verified first-party on 2026-08-09. The operators previously recorded as still printing 'Vodafone Cash' — Soccabet, Premier Bet and BetFox body copy — were not re-verified in this pass and carry forward from the earlier reading; treat them as needing a re-check before any page names them. Nearly all affiliate copy, including pages purporting to describe betPawa, still says Vodafone Cash. SportyBet routes Telecel deposits through a voucher-code flow rather than a direct prompt, which is one step more than MTN. Operator side: free where published. | ||||
| AirtelTigo Money universal but smallest | GH₵1.00 | GH₵1.00 | same as MoMo at the same operator | 9 of 9 100% |
| The telco rebranded to AT and calls the wallet ATMONEY, but no bookmaker uses that label, so pages should say AirtelTigo Money to match what a user sees at checkout. betPawa caps AirtelTigo deposits at GH₵25,000 for MTN and Telecel against GH₵10,000 for AirtelTigo — a deposit maximum, not a withdrawal one, and the clearest documented per-rail disadvantage in the market. As of 2026-08-09 betPawa additionally shows AirtelTigo as 'Currently unavailable' while MTN and Telecel are live, so a page must not present it as an option there without checking. Whether that outage is temporary is unknown. Operator side: free where published. | ||||
| Bank transfer common but secondary | not published | not published | one to two business days, slower than mobile money everywhere both are published | 1 of 9 11% |
| The route for a large win, and the one rail the Bank of Ghana wallet tiers do not cap: SportyBet caps a bank withdrawal at GH₵100,000 per transaction against GH₵75,000 by mobile money. A payout above the punter's wallet tier has to go this way or be split. The account name must match the betting account at Betway and Soccabet. betPawa has no bank rail at all and is mobile money only. | ||||
| Debit or credit card rare, deposit only | GH₵1.00 | deposit only | not published | 3 of 9 33% |
| Funding only. No Ghanaian bookmaker was found paying winnings back to a card; payouts revert to mobile money or a bank. Present at SportyBet and Soccabet, explicitly absent at betPawa and BetFox. The constraint is card-scheme rather than regulatory: a licensed Ghanaian acquirer states that scheme guidelines put betting in a tier needing extra review, and no Bank of Ghana directive on gambling merchant codes exists. | ||||
| Cryptocurrency one licensed casino, absent from every licensed sportsbook | not published | not published | not published | 1 of 9 11% |
| One licensed operator takes it, and the fact base and this file disagreed about that until August 2026: Wiwi Casino, licence GCCA26K5423L, lists Cryptocurrency in its own cashier alongside mobile money, instant and fee-free from GH₵1. No licensed sportsbook does, and no other readable first-party Ghana page mentions it. More to the point, the Gaming Commission's own AML guidelines list cryptocurrency deposits into gaming accounts as a red flag, so using it can trigger enhanced due diligence even where an operator accepts it. Virtual assets are regulated rather than banned: Parliament passed the Virtual Asset Service Providers Act on 19 December 2025 and the Bank of Ghana and SEC license providers under it. That is not permission to bet in crypto. The Bank of Ghana's February 2026 FAQ on the Act states the cedi remains sole legal tender and that it is not permissible to issue invoices, set prices or pay wages in virtual assets. A page listing this rail must name the single operator rather than describing a market that takes crypto. | ||||
No telco fee is shown on any row. Neither MTN, Telecel nor AirtelTigo publishes a tariff we could verify, and every figure circulating for one traces back to an aggregator rather than to the network.
What the central bank lets a wallet hold
The real ceiling on a large betting withdrawal, and it is set by the central bank rather than by any bookmaker. A minimum-KYC wallet cannot receive more than GH₵3,000 in a day, more than GH₵10,000 in a month, or hold more than GH₵5,000, so a big win has to be split or the wallet upgraded. The monthly cap is the one that actually binds: splitting a large payout across consecutive days does not get round it, and only an upgrade to Medium or Enhanced KYC removes it, because monthly value is unlimited at both of those tiers. Enhanced KYC is the full-KYC ceiling: GH₵25,000 a day and a GH₵75,000 balance. The ceilings below are Bank of Ghana limits, effective 2024-03-01, and no bookmaker can lift them.
| Wallet tier | Into the wallet, per day | Balance ceiling |
|---|---|---|
| Minimum KYC | GH₵3,000 | GH₵5,000 |
| Medium KYC | GH₵15,000 | GH₵40,000 |
| Enhanced KYC | GH₵25,000 | GH₵75,000 |
The Electronic Transfer Levy was cut from 1.5% to 1% at the start of 2023 and then repealed outright on 2 April 2025, and the GRA told charging entities to stop deducting the same day and refund anything taken after it. No government levy sits on a mobile money transfer today. Money moves between MTN, Telecel and AirtelTigo wallets: GhIPSS runs the switch behind all three, and it carries wallet-to-wallet transfers across networks as well as wallet-to-bank, bank-to-wallet and wallet-to-e-zwich. A punter reaches it from the mobile money short code they already use, so the network a payout arrives on is rarely the network the money has to stay on.
The three wallets are not interchangeable
They are accepted equally and they are not equal. The differences are in the ceilings, in the number of steps at the cashier, and in what the operator calls them.
MTN Mobile Money
MTN held 72.51% of Ghanaian mobile voice subscriptions, NCA June 2026

One naming trap worth carrying: Telecel Cash was Vodafone Cash until the 2024 rebrand, and half the market's cashiers still print the old name for the same wallet.
Two taxes went in April 2025, and only one of them was yours
The Electronic Transfer Levy was cut from 1.5% to 1% at the start of 2023 and then repealed outright on 2 April 2025, and the GRA told charging entities to stop deducting the same day and refund anything taken after it. No government levy sits on a mobile money transfer today.
The 10 per cent withholding on betting winnings went on the same day. A 10% withholding on gross winnings ran from 2023 until 2 April 2025. They are different taxes on different things, and the reason to keep them apart is that people who remember one of them repealed assume the other never existed.
Neither repeal makes a licensed operator free to charge you for a withdrawal, and none of them do: every operator publishing a position on it pays out at no fee. The telco side is a different question, and this site prints no figure for it, because no network publishes a tariff we could check.
Cards and crypto are not alternatives here
Debit or credit card
rare, deposit only
Funding only.
Cryptocurrency
one licensed casino, absent from every licensed sportsbook
A bank transfer is the exception worth knowing about. It is slower than mobile money everywhere both are published, which makes it the rail for a payout too large for a wallet rather than the rail for a Saturday.
Two rules that catch people out
- Pay from the number the account is registered to. BetFox states it plainly and it is the general habit of the market: money goes out to the wallet the account was opened with, not to whichever number you happen to be holding. A deposit from a friend's phone is the fastest way to have a withdrawal held.
- A bank account has to be in your own name. Betway and Soccabet both require the account name to match the betting account. On a payout large enough to need the bank rail, that is the check that delays it.
Four cashiers we could not read
1xBet, Melbet, 22Bet, Betwinner are licensed in Ghana and did not open from outside it. Their sites either geo-block the country outright or answer with a bot challenge, so no deposit minimum, no payout time and no rail list for them appears anywhere on this site. That is a statement about a border, not about the operator, and it is why every share on this page is out of 9 rather than 13.
Asked about paying and being paid
Why did my betting withdrawal not arrive when the bookmaker says it was sent?
Check the wallet before you check the bookmaker. A minimum-KYC mobile money wallet may receive GH₵3,000 in a day and hold GH₵5,000 at any moment. Those are Bank of Ghana limits and no operator can lift them, so a payout above either one bounces or sits pending no matter what the cashier said. Upgrading the wallet at the telco, or splitting the payout across days, is the fix.
Is the E-Levy still charged on a betting deposit?
No. The Electronic Transfer Levy was cut from 1.5% to 1% at the start of 2023 and then repealed outright on 2 April 2025, and the GRA told charging entities to stop deducting the same day and refund anything taken after it. No government levy sits on a mobile money transfer today. It is a separate thing from the tax on winnings, which also went in April 2025, and the two are frequently confused.
Which mobile money network is best for betting?
Every bookmaker whose cashier we could read takes all three, so the choice is rarely about acceptance. The one documented difference is a ceiling: the largest AirtelTigo Money transfer any operator publishes is GH₵10,000 against GH₵25,000 on MTN. GhIPSS interoperability means a payout reaches your wallet whichever network the bookmaker pays from, so the network you hold does not decide who you can bet with.
Can I withdraw betting winnings to a card?
No Ghanaian bookmaker was found paying winnings back to a card. Cards fund an account at a small number of operators and payouts revert to mobile money or a bank account. That is a card scheme rule rather than a Ghanaian one: no Bank of Ghana directive on gambling merchant codes exists.
What does a bookmaker charge to pay me out?
Nothing, at every operator that publishes a position on it. What we do not print is the telco side: neither MTN, Telecel nor AirtelTigo publishes a tariff we could verify, and every figure circulating for one traces back to an aggregator rather than to the network. A wrong fee is worse than no fee on the one line you would do sums with.
Why does the same wallet have two names?
Vodafone Ghana became Telecel in 2024 and the market never finished renaming it, so some cashiers say Telecel Cash and some still say Vodafone Cash for the same wallet. AirtelTigo has the same problem in reverse: the telco calls itself AT and the wallet ATMONEY, but no bookmaker uses that label, so this site says AirtelTigo Money to match what you will see at checkout.
